Divisional Correspondence Only
STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF GAME, FISH AND PARKS
• DEPARTMENT OF NAT ORAL RESOURCES
R E C t I V t D DATE: June 11, 1961
T0: Bill Clark
~j/ J U iV 1 ?. 1981
FROM: Jim Haskins
,•.T„ ~r,:.,:~~ Pi
I had the opportunity to meet with Larry Jackson, reclamation specialist at
the Yampa Mine, and go over some of the mine property on June 8. Larry showed
me some of the reclamation which has been done at the mine and asked for my
comments on it or any suggestions I had. I suggested that they might incorpo-
rate the use of topographic relief into the reclamation plan as a possible source
of cover to encourage broader use of the reclaimed areas by big game species.
The mine has experimented to a limited extent with the use of potted browse species.
In most cases these transplanted shrubs show signs of browsing by wildlife. I
suggested that they might consider planting potted plants in clump type plantings
and then using range cages or similar fencing devices to protect these from use
by wildlife. I think it would be to the benifit of both the Division and
the Yampa Mining Co. if you could visit the sight sometime when you are in the area.
I also requested to be kept informed of reclamation progress at the mine and of
any new techniques or experimentation that they had planned.
•
cc: Larry Jackson
File
•
O F P•A• S•B
