The Nucla wildlife study area is located arr~ng <br />flat to gently rolling farmland at an elevation o£ 5700 feet. Average annual <br />precipitation at the Union Carbide Weat'~es Station (Uravan, Colorado) near <br />the Nucla study. area for the years 1972-1979 was 10.08 inches (range of <br />8.03 - 12.24 inches) much of which gen=rally occurred betlaee-i Juty and <br />September. <br />Veqe ration and Soils. Five major vegetation types occur on the study area: <br />1. Upland sagebrush <br />2. Grassland pasture <br />3. Agriculture (Alfalfa field) <br />9. Juniper <br />~. Riparian <br />Of these fivo types, the agriculture axsd grassland vegetative types occl;py <br />42 and 235, respectively of the total study area not presently disturbed by <br />ri.ing operations U7ariah Associates 1979).
