Consultation with both agencies assisted in study design.
Specific wildlife sampling and data analysis procedures wore taken from the 1979
edition of Wyoming Depart~rent of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Guideline its,
"Wildlife", and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department's handbook of Biological
Techniques (1977). The methods described herein are st=.+a=~ accepted tecirniques~•
used by state and federal agencies conducting wildlife inventories for mine
permit applications.
SITE RBCOHI4AISSANCE
A thorough vetricle and on-foot reconnaissance of the study took place during
early May, 1979. The purposes of the field reconnaissance were as follows:
1. Determine the number and variety of habitat types ra3uiring sampling
2. Identify, establish, and permanently mark sangle locations in the Field for:
a. 9na11 manmal census transects
b. Avian census transects
c. Mamr~alian predator survey route
An additional purpose of the field reconnaissance was to identify and map•
~*pp= that appeared to be critical to wildlife such as potential raptor
cresting sites, waterfowl and game bird reproduction sitES, and muil.e deer
wintering areas. It was irnpc~rtant to identify all sites that could be critical
to wildlife as early in the baseline program as possible so that these sites
could be carefully monitored throughout the cavrse of the baseline study.
LTTERATURE SURVEY
A review of the wildlife literature pertinent to the lvucla study site took
place during early May, 1979.
