A lethal dose will occur when the <br />animal consumes 0.25 percent of the body weight. The poison is not <br />cumulative and animals will recover. The release of the toxin is related to <br />consumption of water which prompts rapid release of the toxin. <br />Illness may begin within five minutes after plant is eaten. Death occurs <br />within 15 minutes. Extreme salivation, labored breathing, muscle tremors, <br />incoordination, bloating, convulsions, and death due to respiratory failure. <br />Blood will appear bright red and lungs will be congested. Remove affected <br />animals from area and treat with sodium nitrate and sodium thiosalfate <br />intravenously.
