Ari Cornman
Nissen Farms T_crpus hudsonius preblei
Disqualification Request
Page 2
The project site is entirely in agricultural production consisting of corn and oats. An
irrigation ditch complex comprises the only surface water drainage feature on the
property. Water flow within the ditches is controlled by headgates. The ditches are a
combination of concrete and earthen trapezoidal or "V" shaped ditches. Vegetation along
the immediate margins of earthen irrigation ditches is comprised of a dense stand of reed
canarygrass (Phalaris arundtnacea) with scattered individual wild licorice plants
(Glycyrrhiza lepidota). Whete present, the total width of this vegetation association is
six feet, and it is discontinuous along the ditch complex.
While the project site is bordered by the South Platte River approximately 100 feet to the
north, the project site is isolated from the riparian corridor by a lazge earthen levee
system (ten to fifteen feet high and thirty-five feet wide) that comprises a significant
dispersal barrier.
Neither the project site nor any adjacent area falls within those areas designated by
USFWS as critical habitat for the mouse as defined in the Federal Register Vol. 67, No.
137, July 17, 2002, 50 CFR Part 17 proposed rule.
For the above reasons we request a concurrence for disqualification of the Nissen Farms
Resource site for further consideration as Preble's habitat and exclude the site from the
trapping requirements. If you have any questions, or we can provide additional
supporting information regarding this concurrence request please contact us.
Sincerely,
f~
Principal
c: Jeff Gregg, Hall-Irwin
Kazen Flanders, Rocky Mountain Consultants
Attachments: Nissen Farms General Location Map
Figures 1-3
