the tailing disposal area that precludes an unauthorized release because the tailing
disposal area is a zero discharge facility (see following discussion on the tailing disposal
facility).
6.8 Tailing Disposal Area
Source
The primary sources of possible contamination are tailing solution and the tailing
materials. All water that enters the tailing disposal area is considered process water
(PW), and is fully contained and subject to zero discharge. Water that drains to the
tailing disposal area, whether tailing solution, precipitation, or West Pit water is
maintained within the facility. Since all water that reaches the tailing disposal area is
classified PW, the tailings disposal area is not subject to the stormwater regulations.
Risk Assessment
As previously discussed, the tailing disposal facility has been designed and constructed as
azero-discharge facility for precipitation falling within the tailing disposal and the mill
facilities. The storage capacity of the tailing disposal azea has been reviewed and
approved by the DMG and is discussed in the documents associated with the DMG
permit and the various permit technical revisions. Since this area is not subject to
stormwater regulations, no further discussion is necessary.
6.9 Topsoil Stockpile Areas
Source
Topsoil stockpiles have been constructed throughout the mine azea in an effort to make
reclamation easier and to avoid unnecessazy moving of material. The stockpiles were
constructed by end-dumping the native material from mine haul trucks. The stockpiles
were contoured to approximately 3H:1 V and were vegetated if left for longer than one
year. Under these conditions runoff from the topsoil stockpiles will produce some
sediment that must be removed before release to the surface water system.
Ba[tle Mountain Resources, /nc.
