DMG concerns and reclamation plan requirements can be
adequately addressed by the operator through the Technical Revision and/or Amendment
process for the existing Colorado reclamation permit. The operator has recently
committed to limiting excavations to an elevation of 6,645 feet M.S.L., and to conducting
annual survey cross sections during the low water season. The operator has submitted
longitudinal profile of the Animas River channel at the Thomas Pit. DMG int~:nds to utilize
the data, supplied by the operator, to monitor the mining activity to verify that no
significant adverse impacts to river channel stability are occurring as a result of gravel
extraction activities.
DMG appreciates the forthright manner exhibited by Mountain Redi Mix, in submitting the
requested data. DMG is encouraging all operations within the Animas River channel to
commit to similar depth restrictions and annual survey commitments to allow adequate
monitoring and determination of potential adverse impacts to river channel stability.
Please contact me at the DMG field office in Durango, 1474 Main Avenue, Room 207,
Durango, CO 81 301-51 82, phone (970) 247-5062, if I can be of greater serrice.
Sincerely,
w~~~~
Wallace H.
