RESOURCES <br />Energy Fuels Corporation plans to bid on three short term criteria coal <br />• lease applications next to two of tl~cir existing strip mines. This <br />• tract is next t:o their !I1 mine. Tl~e coal is federally-owned while the <br />land is priv:~tcly owned by Energy Fuels Corporation, Papoulas Land Co., <br />and l:outt County Fuel Co. Part of tl~c tract had been previously sur- <br />veyed by LOFA and is reported iu Archac•olo~ical Reconnaissance'of Pro- <br />posed Coal Lc:~sc Areas in Tfoffat, Rio Blanco, and Itoutt Counties, Col- <br />orado, pp 24-28. fart of the tract w:is surveyed by Sue Steel, BL`:, <br />' Montrose District Office; John Beardsley, BLPf, Canon City District Office; <br />.Tom ?fanabe, BLPI Kremmling RA; and myself.' <br />The aiea was not 100% surveyed. The areas not surveyed were due to heavy <br />' grass ground cover. (See map). <br />One site has been recorded by LOPA and 1 isolated find was located by my <br />crew. Site 5 RT 35 is a historic site and will be evaluated by Rick <br />• Atliern, BLPf State historian. IF 44 is a chert decortification flake <br />M ound in an animal trail in a heavy oak brush area, The isolated find <br />was collected. <br />No prehistoric sites eligible or likely to be eligible to the National <br />' Register will be effected by Chis undertaking. <br />It is recommended that this tract be put up for a competitive lease sale. <br />If during initial ground cover and topsoil removal, any artifacts, carbon- <br />ized areas, or bones are uncovered, it is suggested the Office of the State <br />Archaeologist or the BL4I be notified. <br />I certify that this survey complies with the applicable Historic Preserva- <br />tion Laws and Executive Order 11593. <br />October 3, 1978 <br />Date of Examination <br />Archaeologist <br /> <br />i <br /> <br />
