' EXHIBIT E
Reclamation Plan - 41ebb Pit
' After the sand and gravel have been removed, the mined area will be reclaimed
to as natural a state as is possible. Oversized or irregular gravel will be
returned to the pit areas and leveled. Overburden will be spread in an even manner
until depleted. Slopes will be graded to a contour not to exceed a ratio of 3:1.
All existing topsoil will be spread to an approximate depth of 4 inches until
exhausted.
' Natural drainageways will be contoured to avoid erosion or potential flooding
problems.
' Revegetation of the disturbed area ~•+ill be accomplished by seeding, as recommen-
ded by the Soil Conservation Service, the following grasses:
' 1. Indian Ricegrass 4 lbs. per acre of pure live seed
2. 4lestern l•Jheatgrass 6 lbs. per acre of pure live seed
3. Needle and thread 5 lbs. per acre of pure live seed
' Before any seeding takes place, the site v+ill be prepared by cultivating to
insure seed acceptance. The poundage figures given above represent the number of
pounds per acre to be broadcast seeded. Such a method is the only feasible and
economically sound means of seeding. The planting dates far the referenced grass
seeds are from September 1 until freezing to utilize winter moisture. The appli-
cation of fertilizer is not applicable due to the lack of consistent moisture.
' 4lithout adequate supplies of water, fertilizers will burn grasses.
Shrub revegetation, according to the Soil.Canservation Service, is usually
extremely difficult and is not practical due to moisture and soil conditions.
The site is naturally treeless and revegetation with trees will not be attempted
due to soil and moisture conditions.
If shrub and tree revegetation is to take place, it will have to occur naturally
without external revegetation attempts.
' After reclamation is completed, it is anticipated that the site will be used for
agricultural purposes such as grazing.
' Inactive Pit
The present mined area is in close proximity (see Exhibit C) to an inactive gravel
' pit that has been in existence for the past twenty years. The inactive pit had been
used by both the Colorado Department of High~:+ays and 11esa County. Although the pit is
not inactive, the Mesa County Road Department will grade and contour the old mined area
' in order to conform to the reclamation olan for the present mined area. The old pit is
not part of the affected area, but it would be .inconsistent to reclaim only part of the
general area that had been disturbed. '
1
1
