ABSTRACT At the request of Somerset Mining Company, Commercial
Testing and Engineering performed an initial Toxicity
Identification Evaluation (TIE) on the company's effluent. This
follows a series of accelerated tests which found third quarter
effluent samples from the mine to be acutely toxic to Ceriodaphnia
dubia. All previous samples, since the effluent began to show
toxicity, were found to have extremely high alkalinities. It is
the effluent alkalinity that is suspected as the cause of toxicity.
Therefore, this test was designed to verify alkaline toxicity in
the Somerset Mining effluent.
This test was initiated by Somerset Mining Company and was not
ordered by the Colorado Department of Health as part of the TIE
procedure.
COMMERCIAL TESTING & ENGINEERING CO.
oina~ Conr Waeerm arked
=o- Vaur Projection
