I telephoned in a preliminary status report regarding this matter on June 7th. Discharge Location 001 remains a valid sampling location, since the reservoir for Pond #1 received minimum damage. We expect to sample as normal before the end of June at that location. Discharge Point 002 is located as the discharge of what we desig- nate as Pond #3. That pond was completely covered with water, but the embankment was not significantly damaged. The pond was filled with sediment, and we are currently dredging that pond and performing maintenance on the discharge equipment in the pond. What we designate as Pond N4, or the discharge from Pond N4 being your Discharge Point 003, was more heavily damaged. The specifics of that are more thoroughly covered in the attached con- dition report by Larry Reschke, the original of which was provided to Colorado Mined Land Reclamation. That report also provides detail on the damage to the entire facility. We plan to have Pond N3, your Discharge Point 002, and Pond N4, your Discharge Point 003, both operational by June 29, 1984. As you review this letter and the attached letter to MLR, please feel free to call us if you need additional information or have any advice for us. We have not contacted EPA on this matter. We will be sending water samples taken at the end of this month to an alternative laboratory in an effort to add reliability to our sample measurements. Very truly yours, William S. Tate, P.E.
