Doc Date:1 211 112 0 01 III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
is 2.05 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SURFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING
/'~ ACTIVITIES -- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR OPERATION AND
RECLAMATION PLANS
2.05.1 Objectives
The objectives of this Section are to ensure that the Division is
provided with comprehensive and reliable information on the planned
surface and coal mining operations, and to ensure that those
operations will be allowed to be conducted in compliance with the
Colorado Rules and the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation
Act, Article 33 of Title 34, as amended, Colorado Revised Statues
of 1973.
2.05.2 Operation Plan - Estimated Area for Life of Operation
The Operator obtained the original mining permit (C-81-033 issued
July 19, 1981) when it was mining in the C-Seam in the Bear No. 1
and No. 2 Mines. Mining in the Bear No. 1 and No. 2 Mines ceased
in 1981. Underground mining began in C-Seam from the No. 3 Mine in
1982 after the portals and entries of the abandoned Edwards mine
were rehabilitated. Mining was complete in the No. 3 Mine C-Seam
in mid 1989. Slopes were driven down to the B-Seam in 1989. The
Operator began mining in the B-Seam in 1989 where mining is
currently ongoing. Depending on many factors including coal
markets, geologic factors and mining conditions, mining in the B-
Seam will be continue for approximately six years (1995 through
2000). The Operator does not currently plan to mine any other coal
seams in the permit area during subsequent five year permit terms.
The Operator employs detailed and current engineering design for
all underground mining activities in order to promote worker safety
and maximize recovery. The B-Seam Mine Plan (Map 9A) presents the
total extent of the mining now anticipated from the permit area.
2.05-1 Rev. 12-29-94
