4.3 WASTE DISPOSAL
Two general types of wastes are disposed of at Trapper Mine. Disposal of wastes generated at the
minesite is discussed in Section 4.3.2. Utility waste disposal is discussed in Section 4.3.4.
4.3.1 Disposal Sites
Waste will be disposed at Trapper Mine in three kinds of disposal sites including (1) the bottom of the
pits, (2) the "veer" of the spoil piles (between the ungraded spoil ridges), (3) or the dragline benches.
Because of the geological and chemical composition of the overburden, interburden and coal found within
the permit area, there should not be any acidic or toxic material encountered or formed during mining
operations. (For further detail on the composition of the materials in the permit area, refer to Sections
2.7.1, 2.7.2 and 2.7.3). The pit depths vary from 20 feet to 150 feet Any waste disposed on the bottom
of the pits will therefore have an effective cover of at least 20 feet All wastes will be disposed of in a
controlled manner. No waste material will be disposed in embankments or impoundments or in the north
(downslope) end of the bottom of the pits. Also, no waste disposal sites will be located within eight feet of
any coal croplines or coal storage areas.
The final cut in Enfield Pit will be used extensively for waste disposal, especially for utility wastes. Refer
to Section 4.3.4 for more detail.
•
4.3.2 Wastes Generated at the Mine Site
Trapper Mine will generate solid wastes, petroleum wastes and sewage wastes. The first two are dis-
cussed in detail in the following sections. The sewage
4-13
~~q~
