Recreation
Unimproved hiking and picnicing in [he spring and summer months (June to Octo-
ber), and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling during winter months (December to
April), might someday be possible for residents who prefer accessable sites near
Craig. These recreational uses are seasonal and have little potential for redis-
turbing reclaimed areas. Except for snowmobiling, they would be compatible with
continued wildlife and livestock use.
The existing Coyote Dam might be beneficial for public use. This dam is shown on
Map MlOA. The acreage involved is not large enough to disrupt wildlife or
adversely affect reclaimed areas. In fact it would be of benefit to domestic
livestock and wildlife in general and could provide a small fishery. This sug-
gested land use is supported by the Bureau of Land Management and the Colorado
Division of Wildlife (Appendix 0). This structure is not, however, permanent as
proposed. Future permits will consider the benefits to be derived if Coyote Dam
were to remain standing after mining and reclamation are completed.
Safety concerns prevent the above mentioned activities from occurring until min-
ing is completed. Alternative nearby areas provide a more practical location for
these recreational activities.
Commercial and Industrial Development
Trapper Mine has been allowed in an agricultural zone under a Conditional Use
Permit issued by the Moffat County Planning Department (refer to Section 1.2.2)
and will continue [o operate under [his permit. Reclaimed areas are being rein-
stated to cropland and rangeland, therefore plans for additional commercial or
industrial development is not anticipated. IC is possible though, that the
existing mine industrial complex and office facilities could remain and be uti-
lized after completion of mining by local government agencies or other commercial
firms.

4-9
