LtE COMMERCIAL TESTING 8 ENGINE EKING CO. <br />ABSTxacT <br />Commercial Testing. and Engineering, Co. (CT&E) conducted two, one species acute bioassays <br />on effluent from Twentymile Coal Company. The effluent was collected from outfall 001, or <br />Pond A The .purpose of. this bioassay was to determine if the facility complies with the <br />automatic compliance schedule of the Colorado-State Permit System Authorization to Discharge. <br />The test organism utilized was the daphnid (Daphnia magna). Test results indicate that the <br />e1lluent was acutely toxic to Daphnia magna survival in two, consecutive accelerated tests. <br />A "pattern of toxicity" has been established. Twenh~mile Coal Company statT has been <br />notiTied and either a PTT or TIE will be performed within the maximum allowable time <br />period. Therefore, Twentymile Coal Co. outfall 007 effluent is currently.in compliance with the <br />acute WET portion of its Colorado State Discharge Permit for the first quarter of 2002. <br />
