PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS
We reviewed the results of several previous investigations, results of density
testing, and available plans and topographic information. We also contacted
previous sub-contractors and mine personnel who worked on the initial pile
construction and discussed construction procedures. Listed below are descriptions
of the primary sources of information. Amore complete list of references is
provided at the end of this report.
1. Water, Waste & Land, Inc., 1982, (WWL-82). Stability analysis of
proposed waste pile. Based upon estimated waste properties.
2. Permit Documents, Figures by WWL and Wyoming Fuel Company dated
1982 and 1986, (PD-86). Included sedimentation pond plan, plans and
cross-sections of proposed pile, benched keyway cut, and results of
stability analysis.
• 3. Water, Waste & Land, Inc., 1987, (WWL-87). Stability analysis based
upon direct shear test of coal waste material provided by Wyoming
Fuel Company.
4. CTLlfhompson, Inc., January 1991, (CTL-91 ). Density testing and
stability analysis.
5. CTL/Thompson, Inc., May 1993, (CTL-93). Site inspection, density
testing in test pits, comments regarding revised waste processing and
drying, summary of opinions regarding stability.
6. Lincoln DeVore Engineers, 1993 to 1994, (LD-93/94). Density test
reports.
CURRENT INVESTIGATION
The current investigation included review of previous investigations, plans and
reports and additional field investigation and laboratory testing to further evaluate
• conditions within the existing RDA.
3
