• Groundwater Monitoring
Since the buildup of water within the RDA is the significant factor with respect
to stability, we recommend that the groundwater observation wells which were
installed on the first three benches be checked periodically over the RDA
construction life. We recommend measurements every one or two months. ,This
could be performed at the time of density testing. We also suggest that additional
wells be installed as the RDA elevation increases. A well can be installed on each
bench or every other bench. We recommend additional wells be installed on
Benches 4, 6 and 8. The wells should extend through the pile into natural
soils/bedrock. The wells should consist of slotted PVC pipe surrounded by suitable
granular backfill. A bentonite seal should be provided near the surface.
• Quarterly Inspections
The quarterly inspection reports should summarize the results of the density
testing and groundwater measurements and comment on any significant changes.
This will allow a timely evaluation of problems and adjustment of procedures. We
recommend a qualified geotechnical engineer review the testing, groundwater
measurement and inspection reports on an annual basis.
LIMITATIONS
The analyses and conclusions presented in this report are for the conditions
described in the report. Variations in condtions between our borings are always
possible. The progress of RDA construction should be inspected quarterly as
required by State regulations. Compaction testing and groundwater observations
•
28
