In December of 1992 a fine coal recovery circuit was
installed incorporating ahydro-cyclone and spiral which is used to remove
materials of #28 to #120 mesh size from the refuse stream. Coal is then
recovered from this portion of the material and the remaining refuse is passed
• through a dewatering screen before proceeding to the RDA. The minus #120
materials are thickened and processed through a filter press to lower
moisture contents prior to disposal. We believe data indicates there has been
improvement in the degree of compaction within the RDA, particularly since
additional processing equipment has been added. Given the variables
involved, we believe the results of this investigation (CTL/T 95) and the results
of the previous Lincoln DeVore testing (LD 93/94) indicate satisfactory
compaction has been achieved in the upper portion of the RDA. Although
density itself is not considered critical to the RDA stability, the density will
marginally affect the strength of the refuse (friction angle).
Direct Shear Test Results.
