Water for irrigation was pumped from
three sumps the 4orthing Springs Nos. 1, 2 and 3. Springs
Nos. 2 and 3 were man made lakes constructed to collect
underground water to pump for irrigation. Spring :vo. 1
collected surface water running in a draw near the southern
portion of the site. The springs are discussed in more
detail in the Water Rights $ection of this report.
Existing
In the early 1970's, gravel mininy began on the property
west of the old highway. At the time of this report mining
has progressed to the approximate cond~~-ion as shown on
Figure 3. The dotal. surface area of the lakes is 15.6 acres.
There is presently no irrigation of any land on the property
including the land on the east side of the river.
Future
Subject to renewal of the gravel mining permit, operations _
are expected to continue in the present area as well as on
the low land adjacent to the river. No mining is planned
for the east. side of the old highway at this time.
WATER RIGHTS
Irrigation of the propery was accomplished by pumping with
two 5 cfs capacity portable 4" Le Roy pumps powered by a
51 h.p. engine, from three sumps designated as the Worthing
Springs Nos. 1, 2 and 3. The Worthing Springs ido:.. 1, 2
and 3 were c~aimed by Jack and Bertha Wr+-thing in Filing 2IO.
19772 accepted by the Office of the State Engineer of
Colorado on Piay 28, 1954. The filing indicates the initial
development of the sumps was commenced on April 1, 1954.
In 1969 ~7r. Worthing thought action was taken to adjudicate
the water rights but no record of any proceeding could be
found either in the S•7ater Court in Greeley or the State
Engineer's Office. Consequently, there is no decree for
the water rights for the Worthing Springs.
