First, the applicant is requesting the right to remove and sell the topsoil. We feel it should be piled and used in reclamation of the azea. Restoring the area is of utmost importance, and removal of the topsoil would seem to have an adverse effect on that process. We also question the size of the area to be excavated. In the action taken by the county commissioners, it states that, "The 10 acre section that is active shall not have more than 5 acres being excavated at one time and the remainder shall be in the process of being reclaimed as requested by the Division of Wildlife." Now we see section sizes ranging from eight acres to 15 acres on the permit request. The Colorado DeparUnent of Wildlife has recommended that the work area be limited to five acres with reclamation occurring at the conclusion of each segment. We feel that this item needs to be addressed, and that the recommendations of the County Boazd and the Departmer-t of Wildlife should be honored by the applicant. We aze gravely concerned about water resources. We are in the midst of a very severe drought and question where the water for washing aggregate will come from. and what effect this process will have on the water resources for the area. Lastly, we aze afraid of what the increased truck and equipment traffic will do to State Highway 69. The highway is already in poor condition, and heavy truck tratytc will obviously add to further deterioration of the road surface. We are wondering if the Colorado DepaRment of Transportation has made any provision io deal with further damage caused by this project.
