Kerr - Pump Test Results ~ ~~ (~ O~~
12/21/79 _ /
Page Tr.•o
• The second test on well 028-79-14 ;acs a drawdown test of the
siltstone la}•ers 100 feet beneath the coal seam, using wells 025-79-15,
79-16 and 79-60 for observation. Graph ~4 sho;on that transmissivity
of these saturated rocks is 3.4 ft2/day and permeability is 0.02 ft/day.
These numbers indicate very low permeability. The closest observation
well was only 20 feet away from the pumped well and did not react to
the test. Since the observation wells were finished in the teal seam,
the saturated rocks underlying the coal seam must be confined b, shale
layers and groundwater cannot flow to or from the coal seam to she
rocks below.
In conclusion, the Sudduth coal seam is saturated and perr.eable
in the 22777 lease area, but it is confined above and below by scale
• layers. The rocks above the coal seam are apparently dry. The faults
encountered during the drilling program act as barriers to grow^dwater
flow. Therefore, when the pits are opere3 in the lease area, the
only groundwater aquifer to contend with will be the coal seam itself,
The east highwalls will be dry and the west highcvalls should not
release water to the pit. Sum?s in the pit will be needed since
mining will dewater the coal aquifer. The water in the nits may have
to be pumped continuously. More data is needed from the U.S.G_S.,
and another pump test in the northern part of the lease area may be
needed to determine the rate and amount of water inflow to be handled.
G ~~-
GPSaunders
~J
- -.~-
