G ~'S

MEMORANDUM
T0: DRGossett
FROM: GPSaunders
RE: Kerr Mine Pump Tests DATE: August 6, 1980
On June 30, 1980, a pump test was performed on well 028-79-16, using
well 028-79-60 for observation. This was a short-term (130 min.) test to
determine the permeability of the Sudduth Coal Seam in an area where no
boundaries (faults, etc.) would be encountered. Due to limitations of the
submersible pump used, discharge was only 10 gpm. Drawdown in the obser-
vation well and recovery in the pumped well is shown on the attached
graphs. The calculated transmissivities derived from the two methods
correlated very well, at about 117.6 ft2/day. The calculated storage
coefficient was 6.8 x 10-4, indicating confined, artesian conditions.
The coal aquifer at this location has a much lower permeability (0.5
. ft/day) than that found near the fault in Bush Draw (2.2ft/day). This
difference indicates that the coal seam is heavily fractured in the fault
zone, resulting in higher permeability and water yield. The results of
the pump test performed in the unfaulted area on June 30th are probably
more representative of the permeability of [he coal aquifer in most of the
C-22777 lease area.
G /'.S-
• GPS/lar
