Chrontc:: <br />Annual 0.7 1.4 <br />ry FACILITY DESCRIPTION <br />A. /nduslry Description <br />Tbne of Industry: The facility is an underground coo! mine. There is also an inaetiWC tipple facility about eight <br />miles from the mine. <br />2. Sources to the Treatment Plant: No changes hour occurred since the previous permit. <br />J. ChemicaLr Used: Four chemicals, Nalco 7883 and 8873 and Environmental Chemistries EnG7um 9015 and <br />EnChem 9307 arc used in the mine industrial treatmem rystem for settling and flocculation. One chemical, Emech <br />Aqua Ward is used in the domestic trtatmem facility to provide drlorine for disinfettion. All of these ahanicalr <br />have been reviewed previously by the Division and were found to be acceptable for use as recommended by the <br />manufacturer. <br />• B. Wastewater Treatment Description <br />The wastewater treatmem system has not changed sinae the previous permit. <br />Briefly, a single sedimentation pond treau underground mine drainage and surface runoff from the site. The permittee <br />adds chemical Jlamlants and coagulants as necessary (su iV.A.3.aboveJ. The discharge from this pond is outfall 001, <br />whidi goes ro Fish CreeE The mine sump is pumped ona every flute to sewn days, typicnUy, with one pump moving <br />500 to 550 gpm for 18 to 36 hours resulting in 30-day as+erage flows of 0.792 MGD. 7ht facility has the copabiliry to <br />use two pumps in parallel resulting in a capacity of 1700 gpm (daily rnasimum flow = 1.58 MGDJ. <br />!n 1992, the permittee construued a domestic wastewater treatment facility (WWIFJ to replatx a failing septic rystem. <br />The new WW1F consisu of four lined anated lagoons with chlorine disinfection. Disdwrge from this facility goes to the <br />edge of a previously bad~lled area where it mises with spoils spring water from the Emerald Springs spoils spring. The <br />designated dscharge point far outfa11002 is defined as the effluent weir in the comrol building, prior ro emering the <br />spoils spring. The combined spoils spring water is used within the mine for dust suppression. A portion ojthu water is <br />then taken up in the producrd coal, the remainder drains to a sump that is pumped to the industrial pond and disdwrged <br />through outjall 001. <br />Pursuam to the authority of Article 9, Title 25, Regulations for the Certification of Water Treatment Plant and <br />Wastewater Treatmem Pfam Operators, this facility requires a cert~ed operator. The permittee curremly has a Clans D <br />Wastewater Operator. <br />V. PERFORMANCE HISTORY <br />A. Monitoring Data <br />• /.
