N.VV. ~ V/arhlnptCn, D.C. 20007-2599 ~ 202/342-1100
December 13, 1991
Mr. Craig Grotenhaus
Pete Lien & Sons, Inc.
P.O. Box 440
Rapid City, South Dakota 57709
Dear craiq:
Enclosed as requestefl is a copy of the current version of Part 1
oP NSA's Mining and Quarries Group Application for Storm Water
Permits, along with a copy of some additional information we
provided EPA on December 6. Xou will find Pete Lian & Sons
facilities in Precipitation Zone 9 beginning on page 191 and
continuing on pages 192, 194 and 195.
As 2 mentioned previously, EPA's requirements for Part 1 of the
group application have evolved as we've gone through the
application and review process over the past few months. The
agency has increased its focus on Part i and has asked for soma
data that would not have bean provided until Part 2, under the
original requirements. When you submit this to state NPDES
regulatory agencies, please be sure and point out to them that
this is to be considered an interim version of the application.
I will send you a copy of the final version to replace it once we
have formal approval of Part 1 from EPA. The final version will
incorporate any changes made.
If either you or the state regulatory agencies have questions, I
would be pleased to answer them.
Thanks for participating in the group application, and for your
support o£ NSA and its activities.
Sincerely,' 4
~~W
William C. Ford, P.E.
Director of Environmental Programs
