' S'am old enough to remember a time when miners were looked upon as
honest hard working men. The U.S. Government recalled miners from
the battlefields of World War II-bringing them home to work in the
mines. I think miners. are looked upon now as a kind of criminal who
pollutes the environment and, atre a nuisance to society. Working as a
miner in a "Mom and Pop" size`i~,ine now subjected to a myriad of
accumulating and often punitive .government regulations makes me feel
akin to a bootlegger making illegal liquor in the Appalachian hills
of Rentucky.
I think that all I and, others like me, really want is the right to
again earn a decent living is a relatively free society-unhampered
by unnecessary and unproductive government harrasamenta. I realize
that regulation is necessary-but also know from my own problems that
"Mom and Pop" businesses are unreasonably overregulated, causing
them to produce less, and to frequently fail at higher rates than
other "small" businesses.
I hope that you will find it possible to help effect legislative
measures giving support to our small businesses-especially by way of
freeing us from the economic whip now used to punish ua out of
eziatence. If I can help in any way, please contact me at 567-4565
and P.O. Boz 537, Idaho Springs Colorado, 80452.
Respectfully yours,
i
~ ~ ;.
~~
Alvin Mosch
