Dept. of Nattral Resources
Dist. 4 Misc.
I 25
March 11, 1982
The Colorado Division of Highways has reviewed the proposed Siegrist Pit, File
No. 82-15. The pit is located on both sides of St. Vrain Creek immediately
downstream of highway structures D-17-AT, - AS on Interstate 25 and structure
D-17-U on the frontage road.
Our primary concern is the structural integrity of these three highway bridges.
We object to any operation that would cause degradation of St. Vrain Creek and
endanger our structures.
The permit application indicated leaving only 200 ft. wide channel and made no
mention of bank protection or stability through the proposed pit area. A sub-
stantial dike must be provided on both banks to minimize the probability of
the St. Urain eroding into the pits and subsequently degrading the channel
flowline under our bridges. The stream banks are certain to be attacked as
the St. Vrain attempts to re-establish its natural meander, thus we recommend
some bank revetment or placement of the ponds farther from the existing stream
center.
We appreciate the effort by Siegrist Construction Co. to mitigate any adverse
esthetic results of this pit.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this pit permit application. We are
returning the report which you previously transmitted to us.
Very truly yours,
GCJ/acb
Attach.
copy: D. M. Bower
Kasenga/Heiderstadt
E. N.
