PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS <br />1. Phvsioeravhic Features <br />This site is on moderately sloping to steep mountainous terrain. <br />It occurs on shallow soils found on mountain sides, mountain <br />uplands and upland ridges. Slopes range from 5 to 65 percent. <br />Elevation ranges from 8500 to 9700 feet. <br />2. Climatic Features <br />a. The climate is semi-arid with precipitation averaging 15 to 20 <br />inches. The average frost free season is from June 8 to September 12. <br />P~ It ranges from la~~to 100 days in length. The warm season grasses have their <br />C~„ p> optimum growing season during May and June. About 65 percent <br />of the average annual precipitation falls between the period <br />'~"~ May 1 through September 30. Average yearly snow fall is 66 to <br />72 inches. <br />The average annual temperature is 39.3 degrees F. Temperatures <br />are below the freezing mark much of the time from December <br />through March. An average of 22 days will be below 0 degrees <br />F., and 47 days will be below 32 degrees F., during the winter <br />months. <br />c. Intense summer thunder storms resulting in spotty rains are a <br />common occurance in July and August.
