• Abstract
At the request of the Somerset Mining Company and
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation, a Class III cultural resource
inventory of 100 acres within the Sanborn Creek Mine impact
area was conducted by Carl E. Conner of Crand River Institute.
The study area lies just north of the town of Somerset, in
Gunnison County, Colorado.
The survey was undertaken to .ensure the project's
compliance with state legislation governing the identification
and protection of cultural resources on privately owned lands
that will be affected by a government approved action. The
purpose of the cultural resources investigation was to
identify resources within previously unsurveyed areas likely
to be affected by the proposed action, to evaluate these
sites' eligibility for listing in the National Register of
Historic Places (NRHP), and to make management recommendations
for those sites found to be eligible or potentially eligible.
A files search made through the Preservation Office of
the Colorado State Historical Society showed no cultural
resources were previously recorded within the study area.
Field work was performed during the third week of November
1991. No significant historic properties were identified.

• i
