Tab Section. Buildings, equipment and metal will be salvaged and sold to
the extent possible. Wood, paper and other types of trash will be disposed
of through a trash disposal service. Remaining concrete, cinderblocks and
asphalt will be buried in highwall fills or in adjacent holes dug excavated to
allow a minimum of 4' of cover when graded to its final contours. Coal and
refuse remaining in stockpiles will be hauled to a refuse disposal area for
disposal.
The second phase of reclamation will involve backfilling and grading. All
areas affected by surface operations will be backfilled and graded as
necessary to stabilize slopes and promote successful revegetation. Sleep
earthen slopes will typically be graded to 2h:ly or less. Non-toxic materials
such as concrete, cinderblocks and asphalt will be placed in the backfilled
areas then covered with dirt as discussed in detail for each area. Minor
amounts of coal and refuse cleanup material mixed with dirt will also be
graded into the initial fill and covered with clean material. Table 14-1
• shows the approximate soils balances for each of the reclaimed areas.
Technical Revision TR-17 approved in April 1994 included the design of
Cameo Borrow Areas Nos. 1 and 2 (CBA 1 and CBA 2) for cover material
on the refuse piles. CBA 1 was used in 1994 for part of the cover for
CRDA 1 and CRDA 2 and reclaimed later that year. CBA-1 will be re-
activated during 2002. Topsoil will be stripped from the borrow area and
hauled direct to the ongoing reclamation effort at CRDA-2. Topsoil will be
replaced from one of the topsoil piles. Approximately one acre will be re-
disturbed at CBA-1. Additional borrow areas for the refuse piles will be
from bottom land in the Coal Canyon or Coal Gulch drainage basins.
Portions may come from beneath and adjacent to Topsoil Stockpile Nos. 1,
2, 5 through 9, and 12, and additional portions may come from the Roadside
North Portal Facilities area.
•
14-5
(Rev. 1/02)
