following snow melt and following major storm events. Areas
• where erosion is observed will be evaluated to determine the
cause and whether maintenance is required. The evaluation will
include potential effects upon the post-mining land use,
revegetation success and water quality standards. If maintenance
is deemed necessary, appropriate corrective action will be taken
by the end of the fall planting season. If erosional features are
greater than 6" deep on the reclaimed slopes of the refuse pile,
corrective action will be taken within 30 days. This corrective
action may include minor reshaping, contour furrowing, installation
of erosion control matting, installation of straw dikes, dozer
tracking, and/or reseeding. Areas where erosion continues to be
a problem will be reviewed from an engineering standpoint and
redesigned if necessary. A rill and gully inspection report will be
prepared annually and submitted to the Division by June 1 of that
• year. The inspection reports will include a location map, a general
description of the erosion and a description of the corrective
measures to be used.
(f) The coal refuse material to be disposed of during mining operations is
not considered combustible, physically unstable, or acid - or toxic -
forming. Chemical and physical analysis for this material is contained in
Appendix 6-2. Refuse separated from the raw coal mined will be placed
in the refuse disposal areas described in Section 2.05.3(8). The refuse
piles will be constructed to the final contours shown in Exhibits 6C and
9C, in this Tab Section and Exhibits 51 and 52, Tab Section 13.
Non-coal wastes inGuding flammable liquids, paints, garbage, and
lumber are collected by a refuse removal service and disposed of in a
14-28 (Retype 12/16/96)
