March 28, 2005
NATURAL SODA, INC.
3200 County Rd. 31
Rifle. The enclosed Sundry Notice is to document and inform the BLM that Natural
Soda, Inc. requests a change in the drilling plans to reduce the length of the bore
hole for 7H-ZI. The purpose of this modification is to ensure 7H cavity is separated
from lA cavity, thereby avoiding potential sodium chloride contamination and
temperature loss. The BLM has directed that future cavities be separate units. The
EPA specified as a condition of approval in the "Authorization to Commence
Injection" for Well 6H that "further solution mining of Panel 2 will be limited to
paired injection and recovery well schemes." The BLM and EPA directives require
that 7H be positioned to remain isolated from existing cavity lA.
Based on the premise of having independent cavities, a recommendation from
Agapito Associates, Inc. was developed for drilling the 7H-2I bore hole. Attached
is a copy of the Agapito recommendation. To ensure that 7H is separate from lA,
7H-2I drill hole will terminate 251 feet from the center line of lA-4HI drill hole. In
summary, a rectangular model estimate of cavity radius was 1005 feet; utilizing
worst case basis (triangular cavity cross section), a width two times greater than the
rectangular cross section was utilized. This results in a radius of 201 feet for lA.
NSI projects the injection point will mine 30 feet up-dip along the strike of the well
bore. To be conservative Agapito suggested the use of 50 foot for cavity growth.
Therefore, a total of 251 feet is proposed between 7H-2I termination point and lA-
4HIbore hole.
G'rS-~ Ctl~o, ~ry
