Coulson Eacsvating Company, Inc. -Bonser Gravel Pit
Exhibit D -Mining Plan
Bacltground and Procedure
The proposed Bonser pit will be developed on land owned by the operator-Coulson Excavating Co, Inc of
Loveland, CO. The permit area will cover approximately 90 acres and the pit areas will cover a total of
approximately 64.8 acres. The aggregate to be removed is classified as a Class A aggregate resource by
the US Geological survey. The method of mining is to be dry mining, and a backhce will be the primary
extraction equipment. Aggregate will be processed on site. Aggregate processing facilities are to include;
a crusher and screening facility, a scale house, an asphalt batch plant, and associated aggregate and fines
stockpiles.
Mining Operatioav and Timetable
The Bonser gravel pit is expected to be operational for approximately 20-35 years. Overburden removal
will begin one to three years after permitting, with gravel removal starting 30 to 60 days thereafter. The
crusher, screening facility and scale house will be installed prior to gravel extraction, and an asphalt plant
will be installed approximately six months to one year thereafter.
The mining plan is divided into three approximately equal sections or phases, each cell measuring
approximately 104,681 yd~ (21.6 acres). Extraction is expected to last between 5-10 years for each
celUphase. Approximately 229,109-yd3 overburden and approximately 330,948 tons of gavel will be
extracted from each cell (Table 1). Mining will begin at the southern boundary and move towazds the
north.
Table I
Phase/Cell Overburden
Removed Gravel Extracted Duration
1 _229,109 yd3 _330,948 tons -5-10 yrs.
2 --229,109 yd3 -330,948tons -5-10 yrs.
3 _229,109 yd3 -330,948 tons -5-10 yrs.
TOTAL -b87,327 yd3 --992,844 tons -15-30 yrs.
Reclamation 1-Syrs
Prior to aggregate extraction of each phase, overburden will be stripped with scrapers and stockpiled
around the perimeter as shown in Figure 1, Exhibit D. Stockpiles will be constructed 20 - 30 ft high, and
40 - 50 ft wide, with 0.5:1 side slopes. Remaining overburden will be stockpiled at the north end of the
permit area. The size and geometry of the stockpiles surrounding the perimeter of the pit have been
designed so there will be enough volume to backfill slopes to 2:1 and leave an earthen berm/dam of
approximately 10 ft high during reclamation. Reclamation is expected to commence within 1 year of the
completion of mining and be complete within 5 years after the completion of mining.
