Box 1371
Craig, CO 81625
RE: Lyons Pit #2
Our File # 80-248
Dear Mr. Showalter:
As discussed in our phone conversation, we are in receipt of
your bond for the above pit. Also, I said I would recommend
approval of this application at the January 28 Board if you will
respond adequately to the questions below.
1. Please indicate the thickness of topsoil to be stripped
from the pit area and estimate the total volume to be
stockpiled at the place you indicated on the south side
of the pit. As a stabilization measure, this soil stockpile
should be seeded with approximately 6 lbs. per acre of
Western wheatgrass(pure live seed).
2. Please detail how you will reclaim the road and other
compacted areas. I would recommend grading road cuts to
final contour, ripping(or discing if possible) compacted
areas to a depth of at least 6 inches, and seedbed preparation
according to the SCS recommendations. For the actual pit
site and road cuts stripped of topsoil, we recommend that
after final grading and replacement of topsoil the material
be disced to form a bond between the topsoil and material
beneath.
3. After discussing the site with William Hill of the SCS,
the soils in the proposed pit area are apparently not , _
some of the easiest to revegetate.~Therefore, you may have `~
to um lch the disturbed area with about 2 tons/acre and
mechanically crimped into the soil;
If possible please respond to these questions/comments by
January 27. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mike Stanton
Reclamation Specialist
