w .. INSPECTION REPORT <br />Site: National King Coal Mine, Hesperus, Colorado <br />Inspected By: Don R. May, P.E., Project Engineer <br />Inspection Date: Quarterly Inspection, December 17, 1995 <br />Ponds: The east and west sedimentation ponds and their embankments are in good <br />condition. The staff gage used to measure sedimentation reads 0.8 feet. All inlet channels <br />and outlet spillways and pipes are in good condition. Photographs 1 and 2 show the b'Jast <br />and East Ponds respectively. <br />Drainage Ditches: Photograph 3 shows the eastside channel which still has some heavy <br />vegetation. If left to accumulate it could cause obstruction and should be cleaned in the <br />spring. Other than this the eastside ditch and all others on the site appear good condition. <br />There are no signs of erosion and recent maintenance has been performed. <br />Photograph 4 shows the coal waste pile looking down the eastside drainage. As seen the <br />access road on the right is built as designed and the drainage ditch below the pile is in <br />place. <br />All drainage features have been constructed and are operating as stated in the drainage <br />plan submitted to the Division of Minerals and Geology. <br />Coal Waste Pile: There are no signs of structural instability on the waste pile. Recent fill <br />has been placed at the base of the pile as planned. Photographs 4 and 5 show new the <br />waste pile. The slope of the waste pile formed by placement of new material appears to <br />exceed the design slope of 3:1 (horz:vert). This should be confirmed and adjustments made <br />to the face as needed to assure this maximum slope. The highwall and other slopes at the <br />site appear stable. <br />Except for the items mentioned above the fill on the waste pile has been constructed as <br />specified in the design approved by the Division of Minerals and Geology. <br />
