Bedrock, largely sandstone, is encountered on average at 30 inches (N=30). Therefore, 30-inches of
soil is recommended for salvage. However, Winevada on slopes in excess of 45 percent (map units 53F and X8F) are unsalvageable due to very steep slopes.
Zoltay Variant MU:6B, SN:Y39
A 0- 8 S S S S S S S S S S -- 20"
BA 8- 20 S S S S S S S S S S --
Bt 20 - 36 S S S S S S S U S U Con VH-VSNP
C1 36 - 70 S S S S S S S U S U Con VH-VFI-VSNP
2C2 70 - 86 S S S S S S S U S U Con VH-VFI
~ The ZoRay Variant soil is sutable for salvage throughout the mollic epipedon until the 'Bt" argillic is encountered at about 20 inches (N=3).
'EC Electrical Conductivity in mmhos/cm at 25°C.
'Sat % Saturation Percentage.
'Texture Soil Texture.
'SAR Sodium Adsorption Ratio.
'CaC03 Calcium Carbonate Equivalent Percentage.
°C Frag.% Coarse Fragment Percent.
'Con Consistence. VH-very hard; VFI -very firm; VS -very sticky; and VP -very plastic. According to Schafer (1979), these consistency levels are unsuitable.
°Wet Wetness. Shallow to moderately deep groundwater is a limitation to soil salvage because, 1) the high groundwater level would severely restrict the mobility
of topsoil salvage equipment and 2) considerable irreparable physical damage would occur during the handling of the saturated soil. A saturated soil has
a very weak aggregate stability. Consequently, soil structure would be destroyed by puddling and severe compaction would occur during topsoil salvage,
stockpiling, and replacement. The resuRant large, dense clods would be nearly impervious to root penetration.
°Suit Overall rating of soil horizon for topsoil salvage. S = sutable, M =Marginally Suitable, U =Unsuitable. See Table 2 for suitability criteria.
10Limiting Factors The limiting factors are listed on the appropriate line adjacent to the suitability for the horizon in question.
"Rec TSTH Recommended Topsoil Salvage Thidtness for the soil series. All profile descriptions and laboratory data for each soil series were evaluated. Sampled
profiles are evaluated in this table. Other profile descriptions are referenced for each soil series (see Table 3). Weighted average Rec. TSTHs for each
soil map unit (weighted average of major components end inclusions) is presented in Chapter 21, Minesoil Reconstruction, of this PAP.
Il. ~ '• •
