J <br /> ~ <br /> <br /> <br />• _ <br />/ <br />. <br />PUBLIC NOTICE <br />Please take notice that Sundance Coal Company C"Sundance"), a <br />Colorado Corporation, 2801 West Osborne, Phoenix, Arizona 85061, <br />has submitted an application to the Colorado Mined Land <br />Reclamation Division for renewal of its existing Mining and <br />Reclamation Permit Number C-82-055 to conduct surface coal mining <br />and reclamation operations pursuant to the Colorado Surface Coal <br />Mining and Reclamation Act of 1979, 1973 C.R.S. SS 34-33-101 et. <br />seq. The area which is subject to mining activities by Sundance <br />is divided into four pazts; the Animas/Helen Mine Area, the Santa <br />Fe No. 1 Loadout Area, the Santa Fe No. 2 Loadout Area and the <br />Burlington No. 1 Loadout Area. They are located in south central <br />Colorado in Las Animas County. Specifically, the Animas/Helen <br />• Mine Area is situated 3 miles south of Trinidad, Colorado and <br />directly east of Interstate Highway 25 near the town of <br />Starkville. The western boundary of the Animas/Helen Mine azea <br />is paralleled by Raton Creek which is situated approximately 500 <br />to 1,000 feet west of the permit azea, Fishers Peak, a prominent <br />local landmark, is situated approximately 11/2 miles southeast of <br />the permit area. The three loadout areas aze situated in the <br />iailroad yards is the town of Trinidad, Colorado adjacent to the <br />Santa Fe and Burlington Northern railroad lines. Specifically, <br />the areas lie immediately to the southeast of Interstate Highway <br />25 and 800 to 1,500 feet to the northwest of the Purgatoire <br />River.
