During Phase 1, the Raton Creek Mines will merely be readied
for production; consequently, the acreages reflect activities
;~~~~
undertaken during the first permit term and constitute the
current disturbed and affected acreages.
During phase 2, mining is renewed, and additional surface
disturbance and underground development will occur. The
increased surface disturbance will accomodate additional refuse
disposal as approved in the original permit.
Phase 2 of the schedule includes mining from both portals;
however, i t i s not known when mining from the No.2 Minc portal s wi 11
occur. The combined underground acreage of both mines will be
less than that provided for during the first permit term.
`~ Map No. 6 shows the current workings in both the Upper and Lower
Starkville Seams. Also shown on Map No. 6 are the projections
f and affected area) f or the new f i ve year permi t term. The Retnn Geck No.2 Minc
portals, on the north edge of the disturbed area, has a limited
reserve. RetoncrcekNn.tMine to the south has the potential for a i
large reserve, however, more data is needed to show the
feasibility of mining in this area. For this reason, the future
1 i f e of the Rntnn crock Nn. i Mine beyond the new f i ve year permi t term i s
unknown. If the RetonCreekNo.l Minc beCOmeS uneconomic, other seams may
be mined at a later date. Overburden in the mine projection
areas will'range from 0 to 900 feet.
Mining i n the Raton creek No.?
