1) Deep soils, deeper than 40 inches
2) Moderately deep soils, 20 to 40 inches deep
3) Shallow soils, 6 to 20 inches deep
4} Rock outcrop with scattered soils 0 to 10 inches
deep or saline - alkali soils
Only a portion of the soils rated fair or better in
terms of topsoil suitability throughout their surface and
subsoil horizons. Appendix C presents results of laboratory
tests and Appendix B gives details of observed
characteristics. The remainder of the soils rated poor or
unsuitable due to high coarse fragment percentages, rock
outcrop or high salinity.
• As stated, the soils series phases and series variants
have been classified from 1 to 4• Class 1 represents soils
with fair to good topsoil suitability to a depth of more
than 40 inches. Class 2 includes moderately deep soils with
20 to 40 inches of fair to good topsoil. Class 3 contains
soils with fair to good topsoil suitability to a depth of
20 inches. Similarly, soils which have unsuitable subsoil
at depths of greater than 20 inches have been placed in Class
3• Class 4 represents land types and soils unsuitable for
topsoil material.
•
i
- 1 -
