2. Post-Reclamation Site Draina¢e
The entire permit azea will drain to the pit Lake after reclamation, as shown on Map Exhibit E-2
3. Weed Control
United will take measures to ensure that the reclaimed land is free of weed infestations. Problem
weeds wilt be monitored closely each spring for the first two years after reclamation to determine if
they are invading the azea. Weed control will be initiated if the problem becomes serious. The
Division will be consulted regarding any weed infestation area and any control measures prior to
their initiation. It may be necessary to control weeds by mowing after the first year; the feasibility
of chemical weed control methods will be studied should it be necessary. The plan does not con-
template total weed removal on the property. Past experience shows that some initial weed cover
in the first year following retopsoiling is beneficial to the reclamation effort. Weeds tend to pro-
vide shade for new grasses, aze a means of holding snow on the seedbed longer and protect it from
wind and water erosion until the planted species have taken hold.
4. Reveeetation Success Criteria
It is suggested that revegetation in the wetland azea should be deemed successful when the peren-
nial vegetation is self-sustaining and adequate to control erosion. The dryland areas will be deemed
adequate when the live perennial cover reaches 90% of its pre-mine level of approximately 30%.
To be deemed successful, the cover must equal the pre-mine level. Since considerable new
wetlands will be created, this should not be difficult to achieve.
North Fork Pit March 04 39
