O'Brian, President
' Environment, Inc.
P.0. Box 1026
Arvada, CO. 80001
1
1
- Dear Sir:
1
1
1

1
1
t
1
1
1
1
i~
i~
The following is my recommendation for reclaiming the McAtee-Itenquist
Paving Company sand and gravel pits at Sterling, Colorado:
1. If topsoil is found in sufficient quanity it should Ise
stockpiled and applied at a 6 inch or greater depth .o
the areas to be seeded.
2. Sideslopes of the pits to be seeded (above the water line)
should be a 3:1 or gentler slope.
3. Irrigation, if water is obtainable, of Che seeded ar=_as is
desirable for at least the first complete growing season
after planting and preferrable far two years after planting.
This eliminates the largest drawback to obtaining a stand-
the lack of moisture.
4. Drilling with a good grassland drill that has depth bands,
seedbox agitator and packer wheels is necessary. If the
packer wheels are not available then the seedbed should be
packed with other appropriate equipment.
5. Best seeding dates if irrigation water is available is April-
June. If water is not available then March-April would be
the best dates.
6. The following mix should be seeded:
Species
Variety
lbs. PLf*/Ac
Switchgrass
Sideoats grama
Little bluestem
Sand bluestem
Western wheat grass
Grenville or Neb. 28
Vaughn or Butte
Pastura
Elida
Arriba
*PLS=Pure Live Seed=Purity x Germination 100
26
1
2
1.5
3
3
0
