Your letter described the condition of the ponds prior to
the rain event and included were temperature charts that indirated a rain even) during sampling. Sampling for all above
mentioned Outfalls was conducted on September 22, 2000 at approximately 9:40 a.m. for Outfa11001A, 10:40 a.m. for outfall
O11A, and 11:15 a. m. Cor Outfall OI7A. At which lime, approxirrrately 1.46 inches of precipitation was recorded on
temperature charts provided. A ten-year, 24-hour event at Ore Trapper Mine is 1.40 inches. Your sediment ponds are designed
to contain a 10-yearR4-hour precipitation event. You reported sediment loading below the 60%criteria for Outfalls OOIA,
01 IA and 017A which demonstrates that Trapper ponds were being operated and maintained properly during the effluent
limitation extxxdances. The self-monitoring data you provided on your Discharge Monitoring Report is shown below:
Reported
Period Outtall Parameter
Results
Permit
Conditions
3Q00 1R11A TSS (mg/1) 57 (30 day avg) 35 (30 day avg)
3Q110 OI I A TSS (rng/I) 54 (30 day avg) 35 (30 day avg)
3Q00 017A TSS (mg/l) 68 (30 day avg) 35 (30 day avg)
3Q00 017.4 !roe, Total (!rg/!) 3.6(30 day avg) 3.0(30 day avgl
Trapper Mining has shown that discharge occurred within 48 hours after measurable precipitation and that discharge from the
various Outfalls were beyond your control. Therefore, we believe that Trapper Mining Company qualifies for the greater than or
equal to a 10-year/24-hour precipitation alternate limit, thus waiving Total Suspended Solids (1'SS) and Total Iron.
ijyou have any further questions regarding this matter, please contact me at (303) 692-3603.
.~
Since#ely,
//- i
1 Curia 1.
