July 1993 -8- 923-2515 •
An alluvial fan has been mapped near the downstream portion of this azea in the S W ~/. sec. 33,
'C. 6 N., R. 87 W. This alluvial fan is situated at the mouth of a primary, ephemeral tributary.
The remainder of the drainage to the confluence with Scotchman's Gulch has been mapped as
alluvium. This is a broad,. flat area of approximately 20 acres, which exhibits a decreased
stream gradient and a distinct break in slope with respect to the adjacent side slopes.
3.3 Unnamed Drainaee
Similar to other drainages in this region, the headwaters of the unnamed drainage are situated
in clefts between hillocks. The narrow channels have been mapped'. as undifferentiated valley
fill. The adjacent slopes have been mapped as colluvium. A large area of approximately 35
acres, upstream of the Nofstger Reservoir has also been mapped as undifferentiated valley fill. •
This area is somewhat broad with irregular topography which prohibits distinction between
alluvial deposits and colluvium. Undifferentiated valley fill comprising approximately 25 acres,
has been mapped downstream of the Nofstger Reservoir in the NE'/. sec. 4, T. 5 N., R. 87 W.,
to a point where a small azea (less than 8 acres) of alluvium has been mapped. At the upstream
end of this alluvial section aze two alluvial fans.
The remainder of the drainage from the southwest comer of sec. 34, T.6 N., R. 87 W. to
approximately 1000 feet upstream of the confluence of the unnamed drainage with Scotchman's
Draw has been mapped as undifferentiated valley fill, an area of approximately 20 acres. This
reach of the drainage exhibits a narrow channel that is lithologically controlled. Outcrops of the
Twenty-Mile Sandstone Member of the Mesaverde Group control the geometry of this reach of
the drainage resulting in a narrow channel of low sinuosity. Valley floor deposits in this narrow
section of channel are a combination of alluvium and colluvium.
- A reach of approximately 1000 feet of the unnamed drainage located upstream from the •
confluence with Scotchman's Gulch has been mapped as alluvium covering an area of less than
Golder Associates
