A four-foot steel marker, set in the surface <br />plug, identifies each core hole. <br />Coal cores from the I and Q seams of hole CR214 were split; one half <br />going to Stearns-Roger, Inc. for analysis; the other half retained for <br />Utah International, Inc. <br />During the study, correlation between holes was aided through use of <br />lithologic logs of previously drilled holes. These were provided by Utah <br />international, [nc. <br />• <br />l;'~ Liaison with soil scientists assigned to the project was maintained in <br />order to effectively correlate the surface and subsurface effort. <br />For laboratory analysis the cores from each hole were composited into <br />similar lithologic units. A total of ninety samples was designated for <br />detailed study in this manner from the twelve holes of the project. 1'he <br />compositing was accomplished through Che combined efforts of Dr. Sterling <br />Olsen, soil scientist; geologists from Knox. Bergman. Shearer Corporation; <br />and Mr. Larry Tisdel, project supervisor for the Colorado School of <br />Mines Research Institute. <br />~n <br />53 <br />
