ILDFLOWER ESTABLISFTMENT AND MAINTENANCE
to high degree of variation in genotypes, ecotypes and varieties of wildflowers,
mnca to PLATEAU herbicide can vary dmmadcally and may be reduced under
certain soil types and envirotunenmf conditions. Apply PLATEAU herbicide only
if some stand dtirtningor loss can be [olemted. Preemergence applkabons of low
use rates (4 ozlA) to mlemot species, result in the least amount of mury, but may
not eliminate it. Postemergence applications of PLATEAU herbicide can result in
injury or death of Some genotypes, and should be used only as a rexue treatment
when weed competition threatens the stand. Use of certain sprsy adjuvants Can
also increase wildflower injury and loss of smnd. Although most legumes listed in
the tokmnce table are tolerant to 4 ozjA of PLATEAU herbicide preemugeneq
some smnd thinning may occur. Legumes are more tolerant [o post applications,
but chlorosis or smnnng is possible. Recommendations listed in the mbla below
are designed for mixed gmss/wildflower stands. Less than satisfactory vaults may
occur from applications to monoculture smnds.. It is recommended m try on a
.small scale to determine degree of satisfaction on monoculture stands.
For prairiegrass/wiidtiower mixtures: Where some wildflower injury (phyto-
mxicity, height suppression) can be mlemred, apply PLATEAU herbicide at dte
rote to achieve dssucd weed convol, but not to exceed tolerance rate lined in
the mble below. Wildflower injury can be reduced or eliminated with preemer-
genec applications. 7o minimize injury, apply PLATEAU herbicide at 2 m 4 oz
per acre at planting to tolerant species listed below. Use the 2 oz per acre rate
under cool dry conditions and in low rainfall areas. ]f posktnergence application
is made to esmblished pmiriegmss/wildflower mixtures, use the lower[ rote of
PLATEAU herbicide necessary to achieve desired weed control (see "WEEDS
CONTROLLED" section). Postemergence applicafion can result in stand thin-
ning or deaN due to vast variation in seed sources, varieties and genotypes. I[ is
recommrnded that a small area be tested prior to full application for mleraoee of
dashed species. The rotes listed below are for thox species in which accepmble
tolerance has bees confirmed on the variedes/genotypesbaing treated.
Application of PLATEAU herbicide in conjunction vrith an organophosphate
insecticide may cause an increase m wildflower injury.
