GENERAL INFORMATION
PLATEAU herbicide is an aqueous solution to be mixed with water and an
adjuvant and applied as a apmy solution to provide weed control and/or turf
height supprcuion on pastures, rangeland (see "GUIDELINES FOR RANGE-
LAND USE" section), Federal Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) land aM
nontropland areas including noncropland areas that may be grazed or cut for
hay. Examples of noncrophmd areas include, but arc not limiud m railroad,
utility, pipeline and highway rightsof--way, railroad ttouings, utility plant sites,
-petroleum rank farms, pumping installations, non-agricultwal frnce rows, s[omge
areas, non-irrigation diuhbanks, prairie sites, auports, industrial turf, golf course,
recreational and non-residential turf and other similar areas. PLATEAU herbicide
may be used for the release of bcrmudagrus, bahiagrass, smootlt bromegrass,
wheatgrass, "wildtype" common Kentucky bluegrass, native prairiegrass, wild-
flowers, crown vetch, othtt grosses and certain legmnes. PLATEAU herbicide can
also be used for weed wntrol during the etablishmcnt of native prairiegraues and
other grasses (see "REVEGETATION WITH PRAIRIEGRASSES AND OTHER
FORAGE GRASSES" section).
PLATEAU herbicide is readily aberbed through leaves, sums, and roots and is
tramlocated rapidly throughout the plan; with accumulation in the meristematie
regions. Treaud plants stop growing soon otter apmy application. Chlorosis ap-
pears first in the newest leaves, and necrosis spreads from this point In perennials,
the herbicide is eranslocated inm, and ki1Lt, underground storage organs which
przvcnts regrowth. Chlorosis and tissue necrosis may not be apparent in some
plant species for several weeks after application. Complete kill of plants may
not occur for sevcml weeks after application. Adequate sail moisture is impor-
tant for optimum PLATEAU herbicide activiTy. When adequate soil moistum is
preen; PLATEAU herbicide wiL provide reidual control of susceptible germi-
nating weeds. Activity on etablishcd weeds will depend on the weed species and
rooting depth. PLATEAU herbicide is rainfast one hour after application.
PLATEAU httbicide will control annual and perennial grasus and broadleaf
weeds and vine species. PLATEAU herbicide will. provide residual control of
lalxled weeds which germinau in Ore treated area. Certain brash species end
omamrntals may be injured by direct appbcation of PLATEAU herbicide m
tueq foliage. This product may be applied either prccmergence or postemergence
to the weeds. However, posumergence application is the method of choice in
mom situations, particularty for perennial species. For maximum activity, weeds
should be growing vigorousty a[ the time of posumergence applications and
the apmy elution should include an adjuvant (see "SPRAY ADJUVANTS FOR
POSfEMERGENCE APPLICATIONS" semion). These solutions may be applied
as a broadcast or as a spot treatrnent using backpack, or ground equipment
PLATEAU herbicide may be applied in the dormant or growing season for weed
control.
Tolerance of desirable grass specks m PLATEAU herbicide may be reduced
whrn grasus are strewed due to insect damage, diseue, envuommental conditions,
shade, poorly drained soils or other causes. -
Depending on the turf type being treated, some yellowing of turf may occu
with app4caOons during [he growing season. Depending on weather conditions,
yellowing wiL usually disappear in 2 to 4 weeks.
PLATEAU herbicide should not be applied to newly seeded or sprigged gross
stands, unless otherwise stated in this label (see "REVEGETATION WITH
PRAIRIEGRASSES AND OTHER FORAGE GRASSES" section).
MIXING INSTRUCTIONS
Fill the spiny tank one-half mthree-quarters full wit(t clean water. Use a calibmud
measuring device to mcuurc the rcquved amount of PLATEAU herbicide. Add
PLATEAU herbicide to the spiny tank while agitating. Fill the remainder of the
rank with water.
For posumergrnce applications, add a surfactant [o the spray tank (see "SPRAY
ADJUVANTS FOR POSTEMERGENCE APPLICATIONS" section of this label
for specific recommrndations). Maintain agitation while spraying to ensure a
uniform spiny mixmrc. An antifoaming agent mny be added to the tank if needed.
When tank-mixing PLATEAU 6crbicide with recommended herbicides, add wet-
table powders, dispersible granules or other dry fornulations firs; then EC's, then
PLATEAU herbicide, and then an adjuvant.
SPRAYING INSTRUCTIONS
DO NOT apply during windy or gusty conditions unless apphwtions are being
made with a drift control agent and/or an enclosed or shielded spray sysum. DO
NOT apply if rainfall is threauning. Rainfall within 1 horn after PLATEAU
herbicide application may reduce weed conhnl.
GROUND APPLICATIONS:
Uniformly apply with propttty calibrated ground equipment in 2 or more galons
of wear per acre. Application equipmrn; specially designed m make low volume
application should be used when making applications using less than 10 gallons
of wear par acre. A apmy preuure of 20 to 40 psi is recommended.
To achieve acceptable control of the target vcgcmtion; good apmy coverage of
t6c weed fohage (posumergrncc) or soil surface (prcemergence) is required. Tm
achieve goad apmy coverage the sprayer must be cahbrated to deliver the recom-
mended spray volume and pressure and adjust the apmy boom height m ensure
proper coverage of weed foliage err soil surface (according to the manufacturer's
rccommrndation). Avoid ovttlaps when spraying.
spot 7REATMENTS:
To prepare the spiny solution, thoroughly mix in water 0.25 to 1.5% (0.3
1.9 oLga0oa water) PLATEAU herbicide plus an adjuvant (see "SPRAY AD-
SUVANTS FOR POSTEMERGENCE APPWCATIONS" section). A methytaud
seed oil at 1%v/v is the recommended spiny adjuvant except when treating uedhng
prairiegra;se and wildflowers. See section on dtsired species and do not exceed
the recommrnded PLATEAU mu per acre. Also see "WEEDS CONTROLLED"
end "SPECIAL WEED CONTROL" actions far specific rate and/or rank-mix
recommendations.
AERIAL APPLICATION:
All prccaufions should be taken to minimize or eliminau spray drift. Fixed wing
aircraft and helicopurs can be used to apply PLATEAU herbicide, howevtt, when
making applications by fixed wing aircraft maintain approprieu buffer zones tu
prevent spray drift out of the target area. Aerial equipment designed tu minimize
apmy drift such as a helicapur equipped with a MICROFOH.r" boom, qr THRU-
VALVEr" boom or raindrop nozzles, must be uud and calibrated. Except when
applying with a MICROFOII- boom, a drift control agent may be added at the
recommended label rote. To avoid drift, applications should not be made during
inversion conditions, when winds arc gusty, or under any other conditiens that
promou spray drift.
Uniformly apply recommended amount of PLATEAU herbicide, using enough
waur votumc to provide adequau coverage of target area or foliage. Include rn
adjuvant N the spray elution (see "SPRAY ADJUVANTS FOR POSTEMER-
GENCE APPLICATIONS" action). A foam reducing agent may be added at
the recommended rate, if needed. Aerial application m target spemes growing
under the canopy of trees and brash may not receive sufficient spray coverage for
effective control. Far weed species with a recommended fall apphcatian timing
(see "SPECIAL WEED CONTROL" section), delaying the aerial application
until trees and brash have dropped thew ]eaves can improve weed control and
redact the potential for tree and brash injury (zee "TOLERANCE OF TREES
AND BRUSH 70 PLATEAU HERBICIDE" sation). -
IMPORTANT: Thoroughly clean apphcation equipmen; including Lording gwr,
immediatety after uu of this product. Prolonged exposure of this product to
uncoated steel (except stainles sue]) surfaces may result in corrosion and failure
of the exposed part. 'fie maintrnance of an organic coating (paint) may prevent
corrosion.
Avoid overlaps when spraying.
SPRAY ADJUVANTS FOR POSTEMERGENCE APPLICATIONS
Posumergence applications of PLATEAU herbicide require a spiny adjuvan
See "SPECIAL WEID CONTROL" section. Due to variations m surpactan
conunta, certain surfactants containimg high amounts of alcohok, paraffin based
petroleum oik, and other ~omppourids which can increau phymmxicity m desirable
vegetation, it b rewmmended m choose a low phytotoxic surfactant
