Seneca Coal Company Weed Management Plan

Seneca Coal Co., (SCC), owns and leases land for surface coal mining in
Routt County, Colorado. SCC has three permitted coal mining areas and
one permitted gravel pit-Seneca II, Seneca 2-W, Yoast coal mines and
the Mesa gravel pit. (Seneca I Mine is located North of the Yampa River
near the old Mt. Harris town site and has been returned to the
landowner for management). Please see the attached general location
map. Amore detailed land ownership map is available at the mine office.
Introduction
Weed and vegetation surveys conducted on the SCC property have
identified a variety of weed species. The management of these species
varies according to level of infestation and sensitivity of surrounding
vegetation. SCC uses an integrated approach to weed control on
property owned in Routt County, Colorado. Management includes
prevention, chemical, mechanical and biological controls.
Pursuant to the Colorado 1996 Noxious Weed Law and additional 2003
regulations, (35-5.5-101 thru 119), SCC has prepared the following weed
management plan.
Weed Inventory
The list of plants classified as weeds are listed in the Colorado Noxious
Weed Act, 33-5.5-101 to 119, CRS 2003. The noxious weeds are listed
according to "A", "B", and "C". No "A" List species have been observed on
SCC property. Continued annual monitoring will be conducted to insure
that no "A" list plants go undetected. Several species from the "B" and
"C" lists have been identified on SCC property. Some invasive and highly
competitive species not listed on either "A", "B" or "C", are found on
Seneca owned lands; these species will be managed as deemed
appropriate by SCC revegetation personnel.
