3

files of the Office of the State Archaeologist of Colo-
rado (OSAC); and (3) files and site maps of the Bureau
of Land Management (BLM), Little Snake Resource Area of
the Craig District. An attempt was also made to contact
the Routt Historical Society in Steamboat Springs. Un-
fortunately, the society has been listed as inactive by
the Colorado Historical Society since at least 1978, and
no success was had in reaching it.
The Bureau of Land Danagement has extensive records
of cultural resource inventories in the immediate area
(Arthur 1977; Hansen 1978; DfcNamara 1978; Zier 1979) but
• only one (Hansen 1978) overlaps the mine plan boundaries.
According to BLM maps, approximately 30 acres within the
area, in TSN, R86W, Section 2, SW4/NE 4, were inspected but
no archaeological or historical resources were recorded.
The BLM has no other records of cultural inventories
within the mine plan. A recent publication of the BLM
dealing with northwestern Colorado history was also con-
suited (Athearn 1977) but no specific events ar historic
localities within the study area are described. OSAC has
no records whatsoever of archaeological or historic sites
in the mine plan, and .the National Register of Historic•
Places likewise has no listings for the area.
•
