• Exhibit I/J Soils and Vegetation (continued)
The property is now being used as a dry pasture although irrigation has been used on the property in
the past. As stated in the SCS recommendations, at least 6 inches of topsoil will be placed on all
areas for reclamation.
2. Vegetation Information
Site investigations conducted in 1996 have shown that four distinct vegetative communities exist on
the site:
Drv A~loun[ain Shrub Community
• This community exists on the north facing slope of the terrace in cobbly soil and consists primarily
of big sagebrush, serviceberry and skunkbush sumac. Some chokecherry and cottonwood are found
near the perennial spring but this area will not be disturbed. The cover of this community is
estimated to be 20% to 40%. As previously stated, part of this berm is planned to be mined.
Drainage Community
This area is found along the unnamed drainage and consists of cottonwood trees, willow shrubs and
cool season grasses such as Poa pratensis. Apparently, this community and the similar community
in Spring Creek developed when the drainage basins for these two streams were undisturbed and
more water was present than that which currently exists. The cover of this community is estimated
to be 50% to 80%. Other than a very small piece needed to make a road crossing, the entire
community will be undisturbed by this operation. A narrow area in the unnamed drainage was
found to meet the characteristics of a wetland although riparian habitat was not found, as described
in the Savage & Savage report of Appendix A.
•
Carol Ann Permit CDMG Application 5 0
