Since mining activities began to <br />increase in the Marr Mine after 1974, the sage grouse winter <br />populations have increased by over 500%. During this same period, <br />a marked shift of the sage grouse wintering area from locations west <br />of the Marr Mine Area toward the mining activities has been observed. <br />(See: Map 22, North Park Avian Distribution and Map 24, Division of <br />Wildlife Sage Grouse Habitat Types.) Moreover, data collected by <br />Kerr Coal in the winter of 1980 suggests that wintering <br />concentrations of sage grouse in the vicinity of the Kerr Mine Area, <br />where active mining is underway, have increased at a rate seven times <br />faster than the wintering concentrations in the rest of North Park. <br />780-52 aaaa <br />
