• 2.04.7
RESPONSE continued
statistical retrieval.
retreaval for param
mining operations.
Tables 6. 7 and 8 condense the statistical
eters. of special interest concerning coal
Comparison of Table 6 with Table 7 indicates the possibility of a
slight increase in the concentration of all listed parameters and
hence, a slight overall degradation in water quality along the
Yampa's intervening reach. This could be caused by an artifi-
cial biasing. resulting from the differing numbers of samples upon
which the statistics at the two sites are based. However, it also
could indicate the influx of elevated concentrations of chemical
constituents from sources such as Dry Creek and the town of
Hayden, both of which exist in this intervening reach.
An abbreviated classification of water qualities suitable for
• various uses is presented in Table 9. A comparison of the mean
concentration values of the three statistical retrievals has been
made and is presented in Table 10 matrix. Tra general, it was
determined that parameter total concentrations were within suit-
able quality criteria. Occasionally. for drinking and food pro-
cessing uses. total concentrations levels were in excess of the
criteria, however, dissolved concentrations were found to be
acceptable. For these infrequent occurrences, the water was
identi$ed ae being within standards on the basis that ordinary
treatment techniques .would be capable of removing the sus-
pended portion of the parameter's total concentration.
Water quality at all three sites was found to be acceptable for
drinking, irrigation and food processing uses with the qualifi-
cation that the concentrations of certain parameters were not
available. Water quality is generally not acceptable for use in
boilers especially the high pressure variety. Such systems
typically use demineralized water in any case.
